In India, colleges offer a wide range of courses. In fact, right from diploma to post-graduation, all courses are available in the top universities of the country.

Diploma – Diploma courses are 2-year courses instead of degree courses which can be of 3 or 4 years. Here students can pursue the course part-time as well. It trains students in particular fields. In the field of nutrition one can pursue a diploma in:

  2. Diploma in nutrition and health

Advance diploma – It is a shorter qualification than a post-graduate program. The courses covered here can be both vocational and academic. One can pursue this after a diploma or under-graduation. In the field of nutrition one can pursue an advance diploma in:

  1. PGDM in Dietetics and Applied Nutrition
  2. PGDM in Dietetics and Public Health

Under-graduation – These courses are degree courses. They carry higher credibility and their length is usually 3-4 years. Such courses give you in-depth knowledge and are pursued after completion of 12th grade. Additionally, for B.Sc. programs in nutrition students need to study physics, chemistry, and biology in grade 12. It focuses on academic-based courses. In the field of nutrition, one can pursue an undergraduate degree in:

  1. B.Sc. Nutrition and Dietetics
  2. B.Sc. in Clinical Nutrition and dietetics

Post-graduation – These courses are only pursued after one has an undergraduate degree. They are focused on specializations and provide an even deeper knowledge of the field. The courses are usually one year long. In fact, it focuses on a specific branch of a vast field.

  1. M.Sc. in Nutrition and Dietetics
  2. M.Sc. in Clinical Nutrition

Online and certificate courses – These are short term courses. One can do these part-time and avail a certificate. There are 1-5 level courses in diet and nutrition, as well as some private institutes offering online and certificate courses.

All the above courses generally require students to have passed 10+2 exams successfully.  Admission into these courses differs according to university. Some give admission based on entrance exams conducted privately where as others depend on the merit score acquired in class 12 by the student.

For a Post-graduation degree, students need to have completed their under-graduation. In fact, for admissions, there are interviews and entrances conducted by universities. For PGDM as well students need an undergraduate degree. Some universities also give admission to students who have pursued a diploma in the field. Hence, nutrition is a field with great scope.
