What is the difference between resume and CV? Before knowing the difference between a resume and CV let us understand what the documents are.

A resume is a summary that includes your professional experiences, skills, and education. It is a short document. It contains crisp and concise pointers.  The purpose of making a resume is for applying to a job. In fact, a resume keeps changing according to the relevance in the job you apply for.

CV (Curriculum Vitae) is an all-inclusive document. It consists of information about your education, work experience, skills, achievements, etc. CV is a long document that contains a detail description of your journey. It is mainly used for academic purposes like when applying for a Ph.D. in other academic fields. Also, it is an all-purpose document that doesn’t need changes and should be updated with time.

The main difference between the two can be seen in various aspects.  Length of both the documents varies. The length of a resume is very short, usually one page or a maximum of 2 pages.  The length of a CV is long and usually goes up to 3-4 pages based on the experience.  Indeed, it is a notable difference.

Both documents include varied information. A resume will include your contact information, work experience, education, skills, awards, publication, and other relevant information. In fact, the information will be to the point and concise.  The weight-age of professional experience will be higher than the personal information and other sections. The CV should include contact information, educational qualifications, work experience, publications, skills, certificates, achievements, languages, awards, conferences, and all relevant information. CV is a universal document that needs only updating with time.
