A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination, and hard work. This Masai School student, Mohammed Tanveer, is a testament to this statement. At a young age, while studying in class 5, he dropped out of school. Due to financial constraints, he couldn’t continue his schooling and joined a fabrication workshop as a welder.

Tanveer took up several odd jobs before landing one at a digital marketing company. At this company, he taught himself the basics of Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

Search engine optimization is the process of increasing the quality and quantity of website traffic by increasing the visibility of a website or a web page to users of a web search engine.

How an accident Changed Tanveer’s life”

After the accident at the workshop, Tanveer cannot able to move and was bedridden for three months.

He said: “My sister who was then studying medical transcription, inspired me to consider building my future. With her help, I learned to read and write English. With time, I enrolled for a typing course which helped me land a job as a data entry executive.”

“From here, I moved to other data entry jobs and slowly worked my way up to being an SEO specialist. For the next few years, I worked in Digital Marketing, but I always aspired to build a career as a software professional,’ he added.

As it’s rightly said:

Self-education is a lifelong curiosity.

His determination and curiosity for learning helped him to lead to new paths. When you’re curious you find lots of interesting things to do.

Tanveer, 28, is now a full-stack web developer earning a fat salary package. Thanks to his Bengaluru-based military-style coding institute, Masai School. While at Masai School, Tanveer also built a browser extension for Google Chrome and Firefox. He was rewarded to Google’s Bengaluru office for the Google Chrome Developer Summit.

Why he took up a degree

At his workplace, Tanveer realized that despite having experience, several employees would have lower designations in comparison to individuals with a top university degree and less experience.

He added, “I was initially apprehensive about beginning a career as a coder without an educational degree. This was when I came across Masai School’s 6-month coding program and enrolled myself.”

“The coding program has today enabled me with the right skills and in turn kick-started my career as a full-stack developer,” he said.

Such short courses from online learning platforms or schools like Masai can kick start anyone’s career especially when it comes along with monetary benefit.

 Summing up!

Companies today are seeing the value of skills over degrees. With the growing technology, companies need more people who are ready to adapt to changes pertaining to skill sets, which they can deploy as soon as they get into a job.

Even Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, said he doesn’t care if a candidate hasn’t cleared high school”.So, empower yourselves with the right skills and come out of flying colors wherever you go.
