The MJ Library is a perfect example of heritage in Ahmedabad City. It has more than 7.5k books currently. Most liked places by people of Ahmedabad comprising of students, senior citizens, etc. The icing on the cake, they have recently started a new concept of Mobile Library.
Spread And Share Knowledge
Intention to start this library is to spread and share knowledge as much as possible and you know who supported this idea. The Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi donated around 7k books to MJ Library. What is more fascinating? They have still maintained a separate section for the books donated by Mahatma Gandhi.
He had a dream of constructing such a huge library. Businessman and philanthropist Seth Rasiklal Maneklal support his dream and today it is a well-known destination for Amdavadis.
Designed by English architect Claude Batley inspired by the Rajputana Colonial Style of architecture. Comprising of white marble shone in the light, seeming to compete for attention beside the iconic Town Hall of Ahmedabad. Located in the heart of the city and in proximity to the Bus Station of the municipality.
MJ library is always full till 10:00 PM
It was believed that nobody prefers to sit in an 80-year-old library to read? The scenario is different from preconceived notions. The whole library is full of readers. Especially, students who are preparing for various competitive exams like NEET, GATE, etc. The reception area is always full of inquiries and issues/reissue of books. Moreover, senior citizens to adore this place. They come here to read the newspaper. It is always full till 10:00 PM.
India’s first Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had inaugurated the library in the year 1938. It is having more than nine branches of the Library in Ahmedabad. They have a head office located at Ashram Road the one managed by Dr.Bipin Modi.
The library comprising of vast organizations can occupy 118 staff members at a time with 24k registered users. One more interesting thing about the library is that it consists of a picture gallery with a theme ‘Then and Now’.
The library is having 57 pictures of remarkable achievers of Gujarat. They are accompanied by information about their achievements. These pictures were showcase during the 57th Independence Day of India.
